Alexithymia is a commonly co-occurring condition for autistic people. The number of us who it is claimed also have alexithymia varies dramatically – from 20% to 60% – and this is probably because it’s very difficult to measure accurately.

Alexithymia relates to emotions – delayed reaction to them, difficulty in reading our own emotions and difficulty in showing them. It’s a lot more complex than that but that’s a starting point. I have found a very nice website with a helpful Venn diagram showing the differences and relationship between autism and alexithymia which you can find here and in the Information section.
